William asks…
How do you pronounce Blek Le Rat?
I am referring to the artist Blek le Rat?
Admin answers:
Are there many ways to pronounce it? I can only think of one, and that applies to about 10 languages I’m familiar with, and I’m pretty sure it also applies to all the rest. I think you best ask a French person, as he is from France. I think it is probably pronounce Ble, with a silent k. Are there any French people around to confirm this?
Where can I find some Blek Le Rat graffiti artwork?
Admin answers:
Most of his work was done in Paris. Much of it has been removed or painted over as he was prolific about 20 years ago. However there are still some of his street art around and you can spot it. There is also some Banksy art and Shepard Fairey graffiti art in Paris too.
Is Blek Le Rat a fashion photography artist?
Admin answers:
No Blek Le Rat was a street artist who inspired a lot of Banksy art. He used stencils to create a unique graffiti style that was stencil art with political overtones.
Has Blek Le Rat ever been on tv?
Yes, there was an interview with Blek Le Rat on a Channel 4 Documentary, called Graffiti Wars. He is interviewed and asked how he feels about claims that he inspired Banksy and that without his stencil art there would be no Banksy art. He seemed to be ok about it but there was the sense that his style of graffiti was unique to him and should really have stayed that way as it is so difficult to find your own style as a stencil graffiti artist.
